Supporting a Street Kids project

Sandra Duncan has passed on information about a project set up by Zwai Mtyhobile, one of the South African students who was in Scotland a few years ago.

The project aims to help street kids, some of whom are HIV+, some are orphans because all of their families have died of AIDS and some have just been abandoned. Sandra was able to use money sent from one of the partner churches in Scotland to help Zwai start up the street kids project.

Zwai writes, "These photos (see link) show some of the boys that we deal with day in and day out at the beach mission church. Our daily program with them is that we have devotions with them an daily basis. We then have a life skills course, where we teach them on different life skills, e.g. how to behave, how to be grateful, show respect, forgiveness etc.

We then give them breakfast, basically bread and tea. We then have the ten which had registered for the computer course. The course is supposed to run for six months, but because these are boys from the street, sometimes we don't get everybody all the time, and sometimes other organisations take them for sport.

The attached photos were taken before we had computers; we are waiting for the finishing up of the classroom then we will be ready to send you photos of them in the classroom with their computers. We hope the computer school we are running for them now will help them when they try to get jobs.

We now have some full time staff and some volunteers from the community, some from YWAM (Youth with a Mission) and some from other organisations."
